Welcome to the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Protocol

You’ve heard it so many times…there’s no magic bullet for losing weight. But for thousands of health conscious consumers the Ideal Protein method is that and more! The proof is in their successful weight loss and weight maintenance! So what’s the “magic”? Truthfully, it’s not the magic, but the science and uncompromising personal support from a trained coach that makes the Ideal Protein method different than any other weight management system.

The Ideal Protein weight loss method is a medically designed protocol that promotes weight loss, while sparing muscle mass. Dr. Tran Tien Chanh, MD, PhD, developed the weight loss method in France over 20 years ago. Dr. Chanh, focused his career and research on nutrition with a particular emphasis on the treatment of obesity and obesity related issues.

I personally used the protocol in 2008 to lose 75 pounds in six months and have stayed within 5 pounds of my goal weight since then.

The 5 Phases of the Ideal Protein Weight Loss Program:

Phase 1- The Weight Loss Phase

During this phase we concentrate on fat loss. You eat in a manner to force your body to burn fat. Your nutrition plan is a combination of Ideal Protein meal replacement foods, regular protein and vegetables. Most women will loss 8-10 pounds per month and men will lose 10-15. These results can vary by the individual but those are the averages. Exercise is not required but if you choose to , the exercise should be light and easy. During this phase we want you to allow your body to lose fat without the stress of vigorous exercise. You will come into the office weekly for coaching measuring, and planning. There is no additional charge for the coaching!! This phase lasts until you hit your goal weight.

Phase 2- Calorie Transition Phase

During this phase we add a regular protein serving and remove an Ideal Protein serving. The goal of this phase is to begin to transition you back to normal eating patterns and to slowly increase your calorie intake. This phase lasts two weeks.

Phase 3- Calorie and Carbohydrate Transition Phase

During this phase we begin to add carbohydrates back to your diet in a very specific and measured manner. This phase is critical for long term weight loss success. So we are VERY exact. You will know what to do. Please be super strict. This phase also lasts two weeks.

Phase 4- Stabilization and Lifestyle Phase

Congratulations! You have reached your goal and transitioned to all normal food. Now we have to stabilize you at this new weight as well as teach you some new ideas. The first step is to work together to establish your calorie goal as well as the correct combination of carbohydrate, protein and fat for your lifestyle. The second step is to look at your habits, likes, patterns and emotions around food. All of us that struggle with weight have habits and patterns about food that have not served us well in the past. During stabilization we look at these habits and find alternatives and solutions. The coaching during this stage starts out weekly but then can be spread out. This phase lasts 6 months to a year.

Phase 5 – Maintenance

This phase is all about maintaining your new Ideal Lifestyle. Coaching is typically monthly. Checking in monthly is essential to maintain your new habits as well as catch any upward trend on the scale before it gets out of hand. During this stage you will have a “trigger weight”. This number is the number that if you reach it, “triggers” going back on the diet so that we do not allow a 5-10 pound weight gain become 25 or more. This stage lasts the rest of your life.
